Minimally or Noninvasive Treatments
Over the last 10-15 years, the availability and variety of minimally or noninvasive cosmetic treatments have greatly expanded. A large number of options exist for the cosmetic consumer and each treatment has an expected effect and recovery. Many of these treatments can be combined to provide a highly effective and summative rejuvenation effect with minimal to no downtime. Dr. Sand has expertise in these treatments and can explain the options, expected results, and downtime in detail with you during your consultation.
Neuromodulators (Botox®, Dysport®) in Spokane
Botox® and Dysport® are developed from a dilute, purified form of botulinum toxin, which serves as a highly effective medication to relax muscles. While this treatment involves a toxin, numerous studies have shown that it is not generally associated with any serious side effects. These products are injected into the superficial muscles of the face, resulting in relaxation of the hyperactive muscles and smoothing wrinkles, particularly around the eyes (crow’s feet) and brow (’11’ lines). The wrinkle lines caused by squinting, frowning and raising of the eyebrows can be addressed very effectively. These treatments can also be used to prevent the fixation of wrinkles into the face and can result in a significant slowing in facial aging. There are a variety of expected effects with Botox® injections to improve fine lines and wrinkles of the face that can be discussed during your consultation with Dr. Sand.
Intense Pulsed Light for Skin Renewal (Lumecca IPL) in Spokane
Lumecca is a powerful intense pulsed light treatment for pigmented and vascular lesions. After just one use, patients notice significant improvements in both the complexion and clarity of skin. Lumecca operates via photothermolysis, providing a photofacial through the delivery of a comfortable light treatment.
In just 1-3 sessions, Lumecca improves the appearance of age spots (red/brown pigmentation), sun damage, vascular lesions (spider veins, port wine stains, leg telangiectasia), rosacea (redness), and freckles. This treatment can be used on all areas of the body but the most common treatment zones are those areas commonly exposed to the sun (such as the face, neck, chest, legs, hands and arms).
During the treatment there will be a bright flash of light from the Lumecca IPL handpiece that feels like a light elastic sensation. Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subsides within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of the pigmented spots with the pigmented lesions flaking off in the week afterward. This process leads to an evening of the skin tone and complexion. After treating vascular lesions, you may see the vein blanch and disappear or a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.
An improved skin appearance can be noted after the firs session but multiple sessions provide even better results. Treatment regimens depend on the severity of the skin damage, skin type, treatment type and the energy settings.
Most patients do not experience any side effects and any skin reaction usually resolves within a few hours. Patients may find they are sensitive to sunlight immediately after treatment. It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and tanning.
Kybella® (Non-invasive dissolving of neck fat) in Spokane
Kybella® is a medication which can dissolve fat under the chin and improve neck contour. It is the only FDA approved injectable treatment available for this purpose.
Dermal Fillers/Liquid Facelift (Restylane®, Juvederm®, Voluma®, Radiesse®) in Spokane
Dermal fillers, such as Restylane®, Juvederm® or Voluma®, are an injectable gel typically made of hyaluronic acid. These materials are produced in various highly technical processes and are FDA approved for use in certain areas of the face. Wrinkles and deep facial lines are developed over time as the body loses hyaluronic acid in the skin. Use of dermal fillers within the facial tissues can help improve facial volume distribution and improve facial lines. Other fillers, such as Radiesse®, are made of materials which have different life-spans in the body. These products are sometimes used to enhance areas around the lips, eyes, temples or cheeks and counteract age-related changes.
Laser Skin Resurfacing/Rejuvenation in Spokane
Sun and wind damage to the skin leads to the signs of aging including fine lines and wrinkles. To help reverse these effects of aging, skin resurfacing with a CO2 laser has been utilized for many years as an effective way to stimulate new collagen, decrease fine lines and wrinkles and result in overall skin rejuvenation. This procedure is often combined with others in a skin rejuvenation package and can be performed as an office based procedure. Dr. Sand can discuss the expected effect and recovery during your consultation.
Dermabrasion in Spokane
Dermabrasion is a technique used for scar revision and also for deep lines in the face. It involves a controlled injury to the skin to even out raised or depressed areas. Depending on the concern and the issue to be addressed this technique may be a part of your rejuvenation or scar revision plan. Dr. Sand can discuss this option with you during your consultation.
InstaLift® in Spokane
Silhouette InstaLift® is an absorbable suture utilized to elevate the facial tissues restoring a natural and youthful contour. This powerful procedure is performed under local in the office and is truly a ‘lunch-time’ facelift as it has very minimal downtime. The procedure, expected results and downtime can be discussed with Dr. Sand during your consultation.
Platelet-Rich Plasma for Facial Rejuvenation or Hair Restoration in Spokane
Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a concentrated fraction of our blood containing platelets and growth factors. The body’s healing processes are complex and platelets are known to release numerous growth factors that engage mechanisms for both tissue healing and collagen production. These same pathways can be targeted to reverse age-related changes of the face and stimulate hair growth on the scalp. To obtain PRP, a patient’s blood is drawn in the office and processed with advanced technology to capture the platelet-rich portion. The PRP is then injected in that same patient into the face or scalp. Several studies have demonstrated improvement in fine lines, skin quality and facial volume utilizing this technique. This technology has also recently shown great promise in the treatment of hair loss in both men and women. This product provides a minimally invasive way to improve hair quality, stimulate improvement in miniaturized hair follicles and thicken existing hair. Dr. Sand can discuss your candidacy for these treatments and expected results during your consultation.
Fractora (fractionated radiofrequency microneedling) in Spokane
Fractora is the next generation of fractionated skin resurfacing treatments. The fractionated RF energy found in this treatment is scientifically proven to reduce wrinkles. It is minimally invasive, using a matrix of micro-pins to resurface and restore the skin, providing exceptional results with almost no patient downtime. This treatment extends to the deep layers of the skin in a controlled way to revitalize collagen, resulting in improved skin complexion and texture for a more radiant and youthful appearance.
This treatment can be used on any areas that could benefit from skin renewal. The most commonly treated areas include: lower eyelid, upper eyelid, smile lines, forehead, cheeks, mouth and neck. Face and body areas that exhibit wrinkles, discoloration or acne scarring are suitable for treatment.
Visible results can be seen immediately but it typically take two weeks for the most noticeable results to appear. Improvements can continue up to three months after treatment. Depending on the treatment area, 1-6 treatments may be required but this will be discussed during your consultation.
Downtime after this procedure is minimal and makeup can be applied 1-2 days after treatment. Patient’s should expect to see micro-lesions for a few days after treatment and slight redness for up to 1 week depending on treatment parameters. After treatment patients should avoid direct sun exposure and broad spectrum sunscreen should be worn daily.
